In Glas Co Bettman Orange Ring Series
(1995 - 1999)
In 1995, a new generic puck was adopted by the NHL featuring prominent orange rings on each side of the puck. With the exception of a few recent commemorative issues, it marked the first time since the 1950's that team logos did not appear on the puck. It is speculated this was to mimic the approach used by other major sports such as baseball, basketball and football. It proved to be very unpopular with fans and team logos were back on the game pucks in 1996. The new game pucks continued to feature the same reverse logo and the front logos were updated with a white ring surrounding the team logo.
