Although the NHL adopted the General Tire slug as their official game puck in 1985, this decision was not fully accepted by all NHL teams. In Glas Co came out with their own slug in the mid 1980's using updated manufacturing processes which resulted in a higher quality puck. These 'Non-Approved' pucks were used side by side with the official Trench/General Tire pucks of the same era.
