Viceroy Approved
(1980 - 1985)
Although the Biltrite slug proved to be unpopular in the NHL, the idea of using screened pucks instead of pucks with rubberized cresting was viewed favorably. In Glas Co overcame the setback of the failed Biltrite experiment by screening logos on Viceroy slugs, the same puck being used with rubberized cresting. By 1983, the NHL stopped using the rubberized crested pucks and used the screened pucks exclusively. Unfortunately for In Glas Co, lightning did strike twice. The NHL replaced the Viceroy slug with the General Tire slug as their official game puck. This time, however, In Glas Co could not simply screen pucks using the General Tire slug since Trench was doing the screening for them. Viceroy has not been able to return to the NHL scene. In Glas Co decided to take matters into their own hands and started developing their own slugs.
