WINDSOR SPITFIRES
(1975 - Present)
In 1975, Windsor rejoined the top level of Junior hockey with creation of the new Windsor Spitfires. The Spitfire name goes back to 1945 when a Junior team entered the new IHL. Windsor was always a strong hockey town but geography worked against them. When they joind the league, London was the nearest community 2 hours away. Since then, the OHL has expanded westward adding many team in Windsors vicinity (Detroit, Sarnia, Saginaw, Erie). The Spitfires remain a strong member of the OHL today.
